Steel recycling
Steel recycling is vital to modern societies. Almost all metals can be recycled, (except metals containing mercury and lead; and also metals with radioactive properties such as Uranium). Steel is one of the most frequently recycled metals. we can recycle steel over and over again without any loss in quality, so it can be used in the same applications.
What is steel?
Steel is a ferrous metal and it is an alloy of iron combined with some other elements (carbon, magnesium, tungsten, chromium, and vanadium). Steel is vital to modern societies. Tensile strength, durability, and formability have made steel an ideal material for the construction and manufacturing of a wide range of items.
why recycling steel is important?
A very effective way to get involved in environmental waste management is steel recycling. Recycling steel will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, saves energy, and reduces pollution. It will also help to conserve natural resources. for every ton of steel recycled, you will conserve 1200 kg of iron ore, 700kg of coal, and 60 kg of limestone ore. So let’s allow a new lifecycle to begin!
The process of recycling steel:
1.collection
Steel or other metals have higher scrap value than other materials. Therefore, the collection process of steel is different. steel scraps are collected by scrappers in person and sent into scrapyards to be sorted.
2. Sorting
It’s important to separate metals before steel recycling because they are usually mixed in scrap yards. Some of this process is done by hand completely. but it is mostly automated, using different machines and magnets to handle and sort metals into separate piles of steel, brass, aluminum, etc.
3. Shredding
We should remove any non-metal materials like plastics to rid the scrap of any contaminants. and then by using steel recycling machinery like shredders, balling presses, and hydraulic alligators, the scraps are shredded into small pieces so that they can be melted easily in furnaces.
4. melting
At this stage, the pressed and shredded scraps are sent to the furnaces. the furnace runs at a temperature of around 3000 degrees. melting steel uses a considerable amount of energy but it is still less than the energy we need to make new steel from raw materials.
We let a new lifecycle begin!
KeivanKaveh has been designing and manufacturing efficient and reliable recycling machinery for 30 years. All of our products are built to last even in tough conditions like high temperatures ( the condition of melting furnaces). We offer cranes, grapples, conveyors, shredders, shears, etc. If you are interested in improving your company’s recycling plan, we would love to help you with our knowledgeable staff.
